16.51 19.40 MACO CUBE Originally produced as a ‘new tech’ developer to match the MACO ‘Cube 400’ film, this one shot developer is also suitable as a general purpose developer for all new technology films from Kodak, Ilford and Fuji. A replenishable form of this developer is also available in 5 and 25 litre working solution quantities. Useful fine grain developer for general purpose work with all films, and for speed increasing with extended development. (1+31) 15.30 17.98 49 973 HC110 Replenisher 500ml 6.00 7.05 Kodak TMax Developer 23 New liquid concentrate developer designed to give TMax films a shove at the bottom of the curve where they need it most. The 500ml bottle dilutes 1+9 for dilution B, get this if you are testing it, or only processing a few films. highly concentrated form is the best buy, diluting 1+31 for dilution B, the dilution used for most camera film applications. 9.95 11.69 FINE GRAIN / NEW TECHNOLOGY Kodak HC110 Fine grain, sharp working formula supplied as syrupy liquid concentrate. Dilutions in one-shot mode are 1+15 up to 1+30. 5.29 6.21 Agfa Studional Returned from the dead, now made by a&o, Studional is a fine grain, sharp and clean working general developer which can be used in deep tanks or as one-shot. 4.96 5.93 Fotospeed FD10 Good all-round performer, fine grain with good sharpness and normal emulsion speed. This liquid developer is a nice clean conventional developer concentrate, good value for money. 2.36 2.77 Promicrol Champion Photochemistry revived the Promicrol name for this new liquid developer - it is not exactly the same, the original Promicrol used activated glycin to produce a significant speed boost whilst preserving fine grain. Not, perhaps the sharpest of developers, but a convenient liq-uid substitute for ID11 or D76. 45.74 53.74 Ilford Ilfosol-S One-shot fine grain liquid concentrated developer, used at a dilution of 1+ 9. Performance should show a 10% larger image for a given granularity, with a 1/3 increase in speed. 10.21 12.00 Kodak XTOL Newish film developer in powder form from Kodak using non-toxic ascorbic acid, and aimed as a substitute for D76, while providing marginally higher speed and finer grain. This mixes easily, but needs quite hot water. D76 is a powder fine grain formula generally similar to Ilford ID11, but now reformulated to a single powder using a modified form of metol. 4.29 5.04 Kodak D76 Still a classic, heading up for a century old but as popular as ever. Gives full emulsion speed, and fine grain. Supplied as metol-based powder formula in two sachets. Many turned out to be snake oil, but we have been left with a wide repetoire to choose from, including the revival in ‘Pyro’ which takes us back to Victorian technology. When 35mm film in ‘miniature’ cameras first started to be used in the 1920’s and 30’s there was a constant search for miracle brews to extract maximum fine grain and definition from the crude emulsions then available. FILM DEVELOPERS FILM DEVELOPERS FINE GRAIN Choices in film developers are many and varied, and there is much to be gained by matching developer to film, or choosing a developer for a particular aim.
